Tell me about the credit programs that your Center offers.
The Center’s placement in the Instruction Division is important to our goal of infusing career development into academic curricula. We have built strong relationships with the college’s Career and Technical Education program faculty. We offer credit courses, which include Internships, Cooperative Work Experience Education, and three Career and Life Planning courses.
What innovative services do you offer in your Career Center?
The Career Center services include a career resource lab, print/video/audio library, and career assessment and counseling for groups and individuals. The Center offers a weekly Career Development Workshop Series throughout each semester. The workshop series is designed to help students gain the skills they need to find and keep a job or an internship. Some of the workshop topics include resume development, job search strategies, interviewing techniques, and success at work.
What are some of your workforce development efforts?
The Center’s workforce development efforts include information sharing among the members of our Workforce Initiatives Team (WIT). The WIT is composed of the Vice President of Instruction, deans, faculty, and staff who regularly interact with various segments of our employment and geographic communities. Tech Prep, Apprenticeships, and Workforce Initiatives are funded through grants or with funds from Related and Supplemental Instruction through the Chancellor’s office.
